Capital gains vs Income (holding period)

I’m sitting with a situation where I need to classify some taxable events as capital gains and others as trading. This solely is dependent on the holding period.

Is there a way Koinly can classify some transactions as capital gains and others as income based on the average holding duration of the taxable event ? If not, is there a way I can extract the data where the average holding period for the exchange or sell event is given so that I can classify some as capital gains and others as income ?

Hi Ceds,

This might be possible to do even though there is no specific setting for this.

I will need to know a few things before I can answer whether it’s possible or not (or rather, how much trouble it will be to track this).

Which country are you based in?
Which cost-basis method are you using?
How long is the required holding period?

Feel free to send us an email to support@koinly.io if you prefer a private conversation.

Hi Petur,

Thanks for the reply. I only saw this now.

  • South Africa
  • I’m using LIFO in order to increase capital gains portion
  • Holding period is an open ended question but we are going to aim for 6 months due to the high volatility

Your transaction editor shows all the available info. I just need this in csv as part of the transactions report (average holding period).

Thanks for your assistance.
