Polygon (MATIC) API/Calculated balance mismatch

Hi Folks,

I’m new to crypto and mining and am trying to fix the various issues with my Koinly account so I can finish my tax prep.

In this case, I’m getting a notification that the MYST balance in my Polygon account has a mismatch between what the API is reporting and what Koinly is calculating.

These transactions are all deposits from mining activity, no withdrawals or trades. I used the Koinly API to import these transactions.

Koinly says it calculates 56.32174851 MYST in the wallet and that the API reports 44.52958716 for a difference of 11.79216135

Ignoring the spam NFT tokens, there are only ~ 20 real transactions and if I visually cross reference the transactions shown in Koinly with what Polygonscan shows, the individual transaction values match. The MYST token balance in polygonscan is 56.3217485065 - so very close to Koinly’s calculated balance of 56.32174851 in Koinly, identical if we round up to Koinly decimal significance.

I’ve tried re-syncing and re -syncing from the beginning, but to no effect.

It seems to me that this is an API issue as polygonscan and koinly are so close, yet what is being reported by the API is apparently off.

Given the minuscule difference between what polygonscan reports and what koinly calculates, can I ignore the warning, or should I blow the wallet away and start over from a .CSV import?

Thanks - Art

Hi Art!

Thanks for your message.

The Calculated Balance is the one that you need to focus on as that’s the figure that Koinly will use to work out your gains/losses. If this one is correct (or more or less because of the rounding), then you can ignore the Reported Balance.

APIs aren’t always perfect and sometimes the reason for the incorrect balances isn’t clear even from our side (especially if we use an external source for the data).

The difference of -0.0000000035 is definitely due to rounding and it has such a minuscule value that it won’t affect your tax calculations at all, so you can just ignore it.
