IRS Tax From 8949

I am looking to see if you have an example of a IRS Tax Form 8949 you can share with me. I would like to see how your system generates the report, especially for people with over 1000 transactions.

Hi Phantom,

Here is an example page from the 8949 (sorry, the system only allows images and not PDF files to be uploaded). The transactions will of course be split up into long-term and short-term categories.

Koinly will simply add as many 8949 pages as necessary up to a maximum of 2250 transactions.
If you have more than this amount then Koinly will generate an aggregated version according to IRS guidelines (the same way as Turbotax and other tax software do).

Best regards,
Petur

Hey peter

This is what shows up on my tax report page. since it says 504 trades does it mean that it is under the max 2250 transaction limit ?

@chugsteruno

Hey Chugs,
It’s not really possible to say just from these figures.
All of your withdrawals will be included and any deposit that has the label ‘Realized P/L’ will also be included.
You are probably very close to the threshold but you can generate the ‘Turbotax Online’ report to see how many disposals are included. If the report has more than 1800 lines then it has not been aggregated but if it has significntly less (probably less than 200) then that would be an aggregated version.

You can always generate the full list of disposals by exporting your ‘Capital gains report’ but this file is not compatible with Turbotax.

Best regards,
Petur

how do i generate the turbo tax online report ? do i need to go for a payment plan first ? i use turbo tax desktop version for my taxes .

@chugsteruno

Yes, sorry, you can only generate the Turbotax report if you have a paid plan for that year.
Koinly can generate both the Online version and the desktop version but to see if your transactions are being aggregated I would recommend generating the Online version (the format is easier to read).

I also realize now that this advice is a bit silly.
You can just generate the Capital Gains report and see how many transactions are listed there (if you have a plan). This report is never aggregated so you will see the exact amount of disposals.

ok will get the plan and let u know how it goes. so if i buy the plan now , it is valid through end of 2022 right - for the tax year 2021 i mean ?

@chugsteruno
That’s right. The plans do not have an expiry any more so you will always have access to the 2021 reports :slight_smile:

Thanks pal. got any coupon codes i can use :slight_smile:

Hey Peter,

When u refer to max 2250 trascations - i presume you are referring to the count of number of trades as per koinly right ? As of now koinly shows for me around 2500 transactions in the dashboard and out of them around 500 count as trades ( as in buys /sells/exchanges)

Hi Chugs,

I’m referring to 2250 taxable disposals.
Any trade, withdrawal, sale, or fee will be considered as a disposal.
Any deposit, purchase, transfer, or income will not be reported on the 8949.

Best regards,
Petur
