Free mint: exchange or cost/deposit?

Describe the problem:
I tried to search and ask support via chat, but I’m still at a loss as to how to record these. For free mints, should it be listed as a tax-deductible cost and a deposit worth 0, or try to have it as an exchange? Is the latter even possible (for something worth zero)?

Which exchange/wallet is this regarding?
MM

How did you import data into this wallet?
Sync

What have you tried to fix this so far?
read the docs, google, support chat, forum… can’t find anything

Hey @dcra

Whilst we cant give you advice on how to represent this, usually a free mint should be a normal Deposit with a 0 cost-basis.

You should get clarification from a crypto tax accountant local to you, as each country has different rules regarding this. :+1:

Ah ok, thanks for the info. I am in the UK. If it is a normal deposit at 0 cost-basis, wouldn’t that mean it’s not taking into account the gas fee? Even free mints require disposal of eth. That was the question I was really asking - sorry if I was unclear.

@dcra If you see a withdrawal transaction for the gas fee, then you can tag this as a cost.

You can even merge the gas with the NFT so that the NFT takes the value of the mint cost - this is entirely down to you.
