Describe the problem:
Koinly doesn’t give a way to handle donations in the U.S. in a tax-efficient manner.
When making a charitable donation in the U.S. via crypto, you want to transfer assets that have the lowest cost basis (those with the highest gain), since gains on donated assets are not taxed. This is only specific to donations.
Optimized HIFO doesn’t take into account donations. Ideally, in the case of donation transactions, it would select the lowest basis lots to sell instead of highest.
Alternately, if we could manually identify lots to sell in a transaction, I could do it myself, but that doesn’t seem to be supported.
So I don’t see a way to make Koinly handle donations in a tax-efficient manner.
Which exchange/wallet is this regarding?
Bitcoin
How did you import data into this wallet?
Coinbase
What have you tried to fix this so far?
Edit transaction and manually change cost basis (doesn’t seem to be supported), change cost basis method per transaction (not supported).
