Treat forks as gains

Could Koinly treat the whole value of forked transactions as gains? To me that would seem more fitting. It seems that currently the gains of forked transactions are calculated based on the value of the fork-originated balance at the time of receiving the airdrop, but this makes the portfolio be valued as less profitable than it really is.

I understand if the value-at-transaction time is used for taxation - at least in some countries - but wouldn’t it be correct to also calculate the gains in the way that I’ve proposed here? Currently Koinly can show negative gains, but still there is some positive income to be taxed?!

Below are also details about my situation in practice:

I held XEM when the XYM snapshot happened. Now I have both XEM & XYM. But Koinly dashboard tells me that my total gains are negative, because the cost basis for XYM is taken from the date that I received my XYM. At that time the price of XYM was considerably higher than currently. I have tried to tag the fork transaction as fork as well as income, but this doesn’t seem to affect the gains calculation.
