My tax report is showing sold ETH, I never sold EHT but I have transferred them in between different platforms, I’ve added them all to the wallets. So now I’d like to understand how I can backtrack the gain, so that I can verify where it’s coming from and see what I’ve done wrong. Please help a n00b
Thanks!
If you have been transferring your ETH between different platforms and wallets then you will likely have incurred transaction fees that have been paid in ETH. Every transaction fee that you pay in ETH is treated as a sale of ETH for tax purposes. Each such payment will produce a capital gain or a capital loss in Koinly.
Thanks for the clarification!
But, the numbers I have are suggesting that I sold several ETH’s (way more than any gas fees). I’m trying to understand if there is any glitch in the transfer history that may be the cause of this?
OK. You can backtrack on all trades in ETH in a particular wallet by clicking on the little “eye” on the right side of any transaction’s Details window (it should be right next to the API indicator). Using this feature you can start at any ETH transaction in a wallet and look back at the previous ETH transactions in the wallet to see if there was a cost basis calculation error. You should be able to follow Transfers from wallet to wallet to see where a problem might lie.
